Planned Gifts

Donor Recognition

Gifts of support for a planned gift are important to StarVista. Recognition of your generosity begins with the completion of your gift and continues in perpetuity. Legacy donors are never forgotten by StarVista.

As the donor of a legacy gift, you will be presented with permanent membership in the StarVista Futures Society. With your permission, your name will be engraved in the Futures Society’s donor board, which will be prominently displayed in StarVista’s main reception room. You will be listed as a donor in StarVista’s annual report and honored at the Futures Society’s annual gatherings. Several times a year, you will receive StarVista publications and invitations to special events.

Planning for Tomorrow Allows You to Create a Legacy
A gift to the StarVista Futures Society can help provide the support necessary to sustain an innovative, fiscally strong organization that is dedicated to meeting the needs of our community. You can endow the future of StarVista by making a planned gift that keeps on giving for many years to come through your estate plan.

Bequests
A bequest is a direction in a will or trust to pay over or distribute personal property. StarVista is deeply grateful for bequests by will or living trust, which constitute a significant source of support. Bequests work particularly well for donors who want to help StarVista but lack current cash or other assets to make an immediate donation.

Sample Bequest Language
Making a bequest is easy. To make your legacy gift to StarVista, you can direct your attorney to prepare a codicil to your existing will or an amendment to your existing trust. It is usually not necessary to revise the entire document.

Unrestricted and Restricted Gifts
StarVista encourages donors to make unrequested bequests. Such gifts will enable StarVista to maintain flexibility in responding to changing needs in our community.

A restricted bequest should ordinarily be framed in the broadest possible terms, consistent with donor interests, to ensure that the gift will be applicable to future situations. Some examples of restricted designations that would allow for such flexibility are the following “for equipment as needed,” or “for programs that support youth,” or “for programs that support children ages 0-5.”

Your attorney may find the following language helpful in facilitating your legacy gift:

Sample Language for Unrestricted Gift
“I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the Board of Directors of StarVista, a charitable corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State of California, the sum of $_____ (or “a stated percentage” or “a fraction of my residuary estate” or “the following described property” or “the residue of my estate”) to be used for the general purposes of StarVista.”

Sample Language for Restricted Gift
“I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to the Board of Directors of StarVista, a charitable corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State of California, the sum of “_____ (or “a stated percentage” or “a fraction of my residuary estate” or “the following described property” or “the residue of my estate”) to be used for the following purpose: _____________.

“If at any future time, in the judgment of the Board of Directors of StarVista, it is impractical or impossible to carry out this purpose, they may expend the principal and income for whatever purpose they deem appropriate, provided that any commemorative aspect of this fund remains intact.”

“For investment purposes, the principal and income of this gift may be commingled with other assets of StarVista. The gift may bear its proportionate share of expenses allocated by the Directors against invested assets of StarVista.”
